Teamwork: For every lecture course I would recommend to create groups of students (3-5 students for each group, oneĀ may be the leader) for group discussion of the material given in the previous lecture. This not only makes the learning process more fun and efficient, but also it makes students to get used to team work. Of course, joining these groups should be optional and much more students will participate if it will be a part of the ETH study organization, like exercise classes, not just organized by volunteer students. Even more efficient, each student can have his/her part of the material to explain during the discussion. The registration for the groups can be done online according to convenient time for each student.
Teaching enthusiasm: At the beginning of every lecture class I think, if the lecturer starts the lecture with a short story concerning him/her, the material to be thought, about the inventor, scientist, interesting news…, it will enlighten the mood, create a state of mind, when information flow afterwards is more efficient; during lecture add more enthusiasm, instead of monotonic presentation of the material mostly.
Gruppeneinteilung für Übungsgruppen nicht alphabetisch sondern zufällig machen, damit sich die Studierenden unter sich besser kennenlernen/durchmischen können und nicht in jedem Semester die gleichen 20 Gesichter sehen.
Fangen wir doch bei den simplen Dingen an. Wie viele Studenten haben das Problem während den Vorlesungen (nicht aus Schlafmangel) einzudösen, meinen Beobachtungen nach sehr viele.
Deshalb sorgen wir doch dafür, dass bessere, frischere und sauerstoffhaltigere Luft in die Höhrsääle kommt. Verbessert das Lüftungssystem oder baut Höhrsääle mit Fenster zum Öffnen. Auch würde sich am trüben Licht sicher etwas ändern lassen. Tageslicht bewirkt Wunder.
Die Lernatmosphäre sollte nicht nur funktional und rational sein, sondern auch die Kreativität fördern. So sollte man:
1.) Viele Gebäude der ETH farbiger und vor allem mit fröhlichen, hellen Farben: z.B. Weiss, Gelb, Rosa und Hellblau bemalen. Vor allem das Hauptgebäude.
2.) überall bequeme, vorzugsweisse auch farbige Sofas hinstellen. Am besten solche mit vielen verschiedenen Formen der Vielfalt wegen. Hier aber lieber Quantität statt Qualität.
Ein Detail zum Schluss: meine Mitstudenten und ich erleben die Drehtüren im HCI Gebäude am Hönggerberg als unangenehm und gefährlich. Besonders wenn ein grosser Andrang ist. Ich bin für das Ersetzen dieser Türen mit normalen automatischen Schiebetüren.
