The idea is to have an online calendar where the seminars/talks from various departments at ETH are announced. The calendar will also include any special talks/events organised by ETH. It can be extended to announce lab visits or open day or exhibitions happening at ETH. It will also act as a central platform for publicizing the events or talks organized by lecturers to a much wider audience.

Consider a situation where a student has free time, then he/she can just go to this calendar and check if their is any interesting talk/exhibition going on at that moment at ETH and attend it. It will help students to increase their general awareness about various research activities happening at ETH. It will also inculcate interest of students in interdisciplinary research and widen their horizons about stimulating research and discoveries in various disciplines.

The calendar can also serve as a mailing list for students, customised based on their interests. they would be able to subscribe about notification of events based on keywords. In summary, it will be a central place where any student can go and browse various activities as compared to browsing through websites of all departments. It will essentially save a lot of time and effort. Furthermore, it will have an information if their is a free apero after the event 🙂

Häufig werden Hilfsassistenten und Assistenten ins kalte Wasser geworfen, wenn sie anfangen zu unterrichten. Man unterrichtet dann nach Vorbild (ehemalige Assistenten) und so pflanzen sich manche didaktisch unsinnige Methoden weiter. Deshalb ist meine Idee: man führt einen obligatorischen ca. 2-3 tägigen Kurs ein für alle neuen Assistenten und Hilfsassitenten. Dieser kann in Anlehnung an den schon vorhandenen LET Kurs gestaltet werden, jedoch sollten auch andere, neuere didaktische Methoden vermittelt werden, nicht nur Frontalunterricht und Informierender Unterrichtseinstieg. Damit würden die Übungen besser, didaktisch wertvoller, vielfältiger. Um den Asssistenten die Möglichkeit zu geben ihren Unterricht zu verbessern, sollten auch bei den Assistenten (wie bei den Professoren schon der Fall) Evaluationen ihres Unterrichts in Form von Fragebogen stattfinden, damit sie wissen wo ihre Schwachstellen sind und an diesen arbeiten können.
